Though we have
been installing Pupil Track in schools across the United Kingdom
since 1999, Pupil Track was originally created for Langley
Park School for Girls in Beckenham, Kent.
Langley's reporting
system was an unwieldy computer system that made finding data
slow and difficult. Senior management were committed to tracking
pupil performance and so by the end of 1997 they had developed
their own system based on Excel spreadsheets.
The system
worked well, but as the database grew there were problems with
synchronisation and multi-user access. An advanced product
was required and a study was undertaken to determine the requirements
for a robust and user friendly tracking system that was capable
of expansion.
Doran Essen
Consultants produced a system specification and a prototype
for Langley, who sponsored the product development in conjunction
with a consortium of associated schools. Pupil Track was born.
Pupil Track
was developed to provide quick and easy computer reporting
for teachers and parents, to monitor performance, assist with
target setting, and to help decide on appropriate action in
order to ensure a child's continued educational progress, especially
at key stages 3,4 & 5.
The success
of Pupil Track was demonstrated when in 2000 Langley received
a positive report from OFSTED, where reference was made to
the schools regular monitoring of teaching and detailed analysis
of examination results, and its contribution to the good progress
from Years 7-11.
Positive word
of mouth led to other educational institutions following
in the footsteps of Langley Park School for Girls. Since then
Pupil Track has gone on to provide invaluable support to schools
across the UK.
